Abstract
This paper investigates the concept of Box Invariance for classes of hybrid and switched systems. After motivating and defining the notion, a concise summary of results on its characterization for single-domain dynamical systems is given. The notion is then extended to the more general and challenging case of hybrid and switched systems. Sufficient conditions for the validity of the notion are given and discussed. Models of many naturally occuring real systems have been found to be box invariant. This paper illustrates the concept using a biological model of blood glucose metabolism.
