There are direct flights to San Francisco (SFO) and Los Angeles (LAX) from most major European and American cities. There are direct flights to the Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) from SFO and LAX about every 2 hours until 10pm local time.
Asilomar is about 75 mi. (120 km) south of SFO. If you drive, you can take either Rte. 101 to Rte. 156 and join Rte. 1 near Monterey, or take 92 over the hills to Rte. 1 and follow it. Check the Asilomar web page for a local map. Asilomar is also about 300 mi. (480km) from LAX. You can drive from SFO, or fly from SFO or LAX into the Monterey Regional Airport, or from SFO or the San Jose airport (SJC), you can take the Monterey/Salinas Airbus directly to the Asilomar Conference Center for U.S.$30 plus a $15.00 surcharge (the Airbus is a shuttle bus, not an aircraft). The surcharge is per visit to Asilomar so it can be shared among all riders in a single trip to the conference site. The Airbus stops at the Monterey Transit Plaza which is about 3km from Asilomar before proceeding to Asilomar. The trip to Asilomar is not a scheduled stop, hence the surcharge. The Monterey/Salinas Airbus will also pick you up at Asilomar for a return trip to SFO or SJC (it does not go to the Monterey airport). You can get a schedule and make a reservation at the Airbus website. Asilomar is about a 15-min taxi ride from the Monterey airport (cost is approx U.S.$22). Rental cars are also available at the Monterey airport.
