FLoC (Federated Logic Conference) will take place in August 2006 in
Seattle. It will include LICS, CAV, RTA, IJCAR, and a host of
workshops. IJCAR (International Joint Conference on Automated Reasoning)
already merges CADE, FroCos, FTP, and Tableaux. We propose to
include TPHOLs as part of IJCAR06. We enumerate some of the pros and
cons of having TPHOLs as part of IJCAR.
Pros
- Larger audience: As part of FLoC, we will be competing with other
conferences for a share of the audience. IJCAR04 had over 200
attendees.
- Synergistic interaction between different subfields of automated
deduction, particularly between the interactive and automated approaches.
- Smaller financial burden for organizers and participants.
- Lighter organizational burden.
- Good representation for TPHOLs in terms of program committee members.
The general chair (Harrison) and co-program chair (Shankar) are from
the TPHOLs community.
Cons
- Dilution of identity for one year
- Overhead of coordination with other IJCAR constituents
IJCAR 2006 represents a unique opportunity to take a comprehensive view of
automated deduction, showcase the research advances to a wider audience,
and build consensus and momentum for the research challenges of the
twenty-first century. For this reason, the other IJCAR constituents are
keen to merge TPHOLs into IJCAR. The IJCAR program includes a mix of
research papers, system descriptions, and competitions. The conference
also includes two days of workshops and tutorials. The IJCAR PC will be
made up of key researchers from the communities associated with the
constituent meetings. We expect IJCAR to be an attractive forum for
TPHOLs-related topics.
